Edo Police Recover Pistol During Stop-and-Search Operation

The Edo State Police Command has recovered an Italian-made pistol with its breech number allegedly filed off during a stop-and-search operation along the Auchi–Okene Expressway in Okpella, Edo North.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, on Friday.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on August 1, 2026, when operatives of the Safer Highway Unit, Edo North, intercepted two unidentified men travelling on a motorcycle during a routine stop-and-search operation.
The police said that as officers approached the motorcycle, the passenger allegedly offered them money, which they refused before insisting that both occupants alight for a search based on reasonable suspicion.
The passenger reportedly threw away the bag he was carrying and fled into a nearby bush, while the motorcycle rider sped away from the scene, abandoning the bag.
A search of the abandoned bag, according to the command, led to the recovery of a serviceable Italian-made pistol whose breech number had been filed off.
The command said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
