Police Intervene After Residents Confront Armed Man in Edo

Residents of Edo State confronted a man carrying a pistol while dressed in civilian clothing, sparking panic and suspicion before police officers intervened and took him away.

A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, captured residents questioning the man’s identity, while a voice in the background repeatedly shouted, “Thief o! He no wear uniform, he hold gun!” in reference to the fact that he was armed but not dressed in an official security uniform.

The man claimed he was a security operative, but his explanation failed to convince the crowd, who demanded that he properly identify himself.

As tensions escalated, police officers arrived at the scene and restored calm. The man was subsequently escorted into a police vehicle and taken away for further questioning.

The Edo state Police command are yet to issue an official statement confirming the man’s identity or explaining the circumstances surrounding the incident. It therefore remains unclear whether he is a legitimate security operative or the reasons behind his possession of the firearm.
