NITDA Reaffirms Commitment to Digital Adoption, Strengthens Partnership with NIMC.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to driving nationwide digital adoption as it strengthens collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to build a secure and inclusive digital identity ecosystem in Nigeria. 

NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, stated this during a courtesy visit by the NIMC management to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, where both organisations pledged to deepen cooperation in advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda. 

According to Abdullahi, NITDA’s mandate extends beyond regulating the information technology sector to ensuring that Nigerians embrace and benefit from digital technologies. He said the agency remains committed to working with government institutions and stakeholders to expand technology adoption across the country. 

He described Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as a critical foundation for economic growth, noting that secure and reliable digital systems are essential for delivering efficient public services and supporting innovation. 

The NITDA boss also announced the formal handover of the agency’s Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) framework to NIMC, describing the move as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital identity architecture and enhance secure electronic transactions. 

Speaking during the engagement, NIMC Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the newly enacted NIMC Act provides the legal framework for transitioning Nigeria from a traditional identity database to a modern digital identity ecosystem. 

She explained that the new framework is designed to improve interoperability, strengthen security, and make identity verification more efficient across government and private sector platforms. The law also reinforces the principle of one person, one identity while supporting secure digital credentials for online and offline services. 

Both agencies stressed that stronger collaboration between NITDA and NIMC would accelerate digital inclusion, improve public service delivery, and support the Federal Government’s vision of building a secure and innovation-driven digital economy.
