Lawal Urges Citizens To Promote Unity, Peaceful Coexistence, Responsible Citizenship

Lawal

The Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Adewale Lawal, has urged citizens and leaders to continue promoting unity, peaceful coexistence and responsible citizenship as Nigeria commemorates its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Lawal made the call in his goodwill message delivered at the International Friendship League (IFL) Symposium held in Joju, Ota, Ogun State.

Represented by his Personal Assistant, Solanke Israel Babatunde, the chairman said meaningful national development begins at the grassroots when citizens actively participate in their communities and contribute responsibly to society.

He noted that citizens have a role to play in supporting legitimate institutions, protecting the environment, fulfilling their civic obligations, promoting education and contributing to community development.

Speaking on the theme of the symposium, “Transformed Citizens, Transformed Nation,” Lawal said the theme should encourage Nigerians to look inward and reflect on their individual contributions to the progress and development of the country.

According to him, while government has responsibilities towards the people, citizens also have important responsibilities in building the Nigeria they desire.

He said achieving a better Nigeria would require shared commitment and a willingness by citizens to do the right thing even when nobody is watching.

Lawal urged Nigerians to remain committed to building a nation where justice, peace and human dignity are upheld.

He also commended the International Friendship League for creating a platform for reflection on responsible citizenship and national transformation, describing such initiatives as important to strengthening unity and community development.
