ECN, UNEP Strengthen Partnership on Energy-Efficient Cooling Technologies

ecn

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, has held talks with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on advancing energy-efficient refrigeration technologies in Nigeria as part of efforts to support the country’s clean energy transition.

Dr. Abdullahi received UNEP’s Task Manager for Africa, Mr. Julien Lheureux, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja during ongoing consultations on the preparation of the Global Environment Facility (GEF-9) project proposal.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration to accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient refrigeration appliances, promote sustainable cooling technologies, and advance climate change mitigation and energy efficiency initiatives in Nigeria.

According to the Commission, the proposed GEF-9 project is expected to support the deployment of modern, energy-efficient cooling systems that reduce energy consumption while improving environmental sustainability.

The partnership also seeks to enhance Nigeria’s clean energy transition by promoting innovative refrigeration technologies capable of lowering greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency across the country.
