NITDA Proposes Niger Delta Innovation Corridor To Boost AI, Clean Energy
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has proposed the establishment of the Niger Delta Connected Innovation Corridor to link innovation hubs, universities and investors, with a focus on industrial artificial intelligence, clean energy and maritime technology.
The initiative is aimed at positioning Nigeria’s South-South region as a technology and innovation hub where startups can expand their businesses, secure commercial contracts and compete in global markets.
The proposal was presented by Dr Aristotle Onumo while delivering a keynote address on behalf of NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, at the OffChart NXT Conference 2026 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The conference was held under the theme, “Hub to Network: Building Nigeria’s Connected Innovation Economy.”
According to NITDA, the proposed corridor would strengthen collaboration among innovation hubs, academic institutions and investors, helping to connect emerging businesses with opportunities for growth and commercialisation.
The agency said the initiative aligns with its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan 2.0 (SRAP 2.0), which focuses on expanding digital infrastructure, developing local technology talent and strengthening collaboration across Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
As part of efforts to improve connectivity, NITDA highlighted Project BRIDGE, which includes a planned 90,000-kilometre fibre-optic expansion to strengthen broadband infrastructure and improve digital access.
The agency also called on startups to participate in the Builders’ Festival at the Digital Nigeria International Conference and Exhibition, scheduled to hold in Abuja from November 10 to 12, 2026.
NITDA said verified startup solutions showcased at the event would be connected to a ₦3 billion investment pipeline, providing opportunities for businesses to attract funding and establish partnerships.
