NYSC Corps Members Welfare: Employers Risk Blacklist

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has warned that organisations that fail to provide accommodation and transportation for corps members will be blacklisted, as the scheme intensifies efforts to improve NYSC corps members welfare across Nigeria.

Speaking during a workshop in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nafiu said improving NYSC corps members welfare remains a top priority of the management, urging employers to fulfil their responsibilities to corps members posted to their organisations.

He assured corps members of the Federal Government’s commitment to their security and welfare while calling on state governments, local government councils, and other stakeholders to strengthen support for the National Youth Service Corps scheme.

As part of efforts to protect NYSC corps members welfare, the Director-General advised corps members to prioritise their safety at all times and promptly report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security authorities.

Nafiu also urged corps members to remain disciplined, dedicated to their places of primary assignment, and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of the NYSC.

He encouraged them to actively participate in the post-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, saying the initiative would help them acquire practical skills before completing their service year.

According to him, corps members should identify business opportunities within their host communities and begin earning legitimate income while still serving.

The NYSC boss further reminded corps members to see the one-year national service as a training ground for their future careers and advised them to manage their finances wisely throughout the service year.
