Edo Police Launch Joint Security Intervention in Iyanomo After Community Clash

The Edo Police command has launched a joint security intervention in Iyanomo following a violent community clash that sparked public concern after a viral video surfaced online.

The Edo State Police Command, in a statement issued on July 22, 2026, announced that the coordinated operation began on July 20, 2026, in response to complaints received from residents of Iyanomo Community.

According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikioedem, the operation involves personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Security operatives have been deployed to strategic locations within Iyanomo Community to restore peace, prevent further violence, and reassure residents of their safety.

The Command said the Edo Police joint security intervention in Iyanomo is not a temporary measure, noting that security personnel will remain in the community for as long as necessary while investigations continue.

Police authorities stated that the operation is aimed at identifying, arresting, and prosecuting those responsible for the violence.

The statement also explained that the intervention is designed to protect law-abiding residents, prevent further criminal activities, and ensure that members of the community can carry out their lawful activities without fear.

The Command cited a similar strategy previously adopted in the Uselu-Nahor area, where sustained joint security deployment reportedly reduced criminal activities and restored public confidence.

Based on that experience, the Commissioner of Police expressed optimism that the Edo Police joint security intervention in Iyanomo would achieve similar results in restoring peace and security.

Residents of Iyanomo Community were urged to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel, and provide credible and timely information to support ongoing operations and investigations.

The Police Command also warned that anyone attempting to exploit the situation through violence, reprisals, or any act capable of threatening public peace would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
