Kogi School Attack: Gunmen Abduct Principal, Four Students, NECO Official During Examination

Kogi school attack has left residents in shock after gunmen invaded Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area on Tuesday evening, abducting the school principal, four students and a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc staff member while candidates were writing their NECO examination.

The Kogi State Police Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, said the attack occurred at about 5:25 p.m.

According to the police, a combined team of security operatives immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation and is currently trailing the abductors.

The command confirmed that one of the abducted students has been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, alongside the Brigade Commander and the Kogi State Security Adviser to the Governor, was on his way to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

The police assured residents of their commitment to rescuing the remaining victims and restoring calm in the area, adding that a comprehensive statement with further verified details would be released as the investigation progresses.
