Dangote Offers N500,000 Reward for Information on Illegal Use of Branded Trucks

Aliko Dangote

Dangote Industries Limited has launched a whistleblower initiative offering a cash reward of N500,000 to members of the public who provide credible information leading to the arrest of offenders or the interception of unauthorised goods being transported with Dangote-branded trucks.

The company disclosed the initiative in a statement issued in Lagos, explaining that the move is part of its broader efforts to protect the integrity of its nationwide logistics operations and curb the illegal use of its branded trucks for commercial haulage.

According to the company, the initiative is designed to eliminate the activities of individuals who unlawfully use Dangote-branded trucks to transport goods not authorised by the company.

Dangote called on members of the public to support the campaign by reporting suspected cases of illegal haulage involving its vehicles.

The company clarified that trucks operated by its subsidiaries are authorised to transport only designated products and warned that any violation would attract sanctions.

According to the statement, Dangote Cement trucks are authorised to transport only cement, limestone, high-grade gypsum, coal and clinker. Trucks belonging to Dangote Sugar Refinery are restricted to conveying sugar products only.

It added that trucks operated by NASCON Allied Industries are designated solely for Dangote Salt and Dan-Q Seasoning products, while Dangote Packaging vehicles are authorised to transport bags and other packaging materials.

Similarly, trucks belonging to Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals are permitted to transport polypropylene products only, while Dangote Fertiliser Limited trucks are authorised exclusively for the haulage of urea fertiliser.

The company said anyone who provides verifiable information leading to the arrest of individuals involved in illegal haulage activities or the recovery of unauthorised goods transported in Dangote-branded trucks will receive a cash reward of N500,000.

Dangote warned that any of its trucks found conveying unauthorised goods would be treated as being involved in illegal haulage. It added that both the driver and the owner of the goods would be liable to arrest, confiscation of the cargo and prosecution in accordance with applicable laws.

To support investigations, the company said it has established dedicated reporting channels for members of the public to report suspected illegal haulage activities across the country.

Whistleblowers are advised to provide relevant details, including the truck type, registration plate number, cab number, vehicle location, colour, description of the goods being transported and photographs of the truck and cargo where available.

The company also disclosed that dedicated telephone hotlines have been created for reports involving trucks operating from its Obajana, Okpella and Gboko plants.

Dangote further stated that law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, have been authorised to arrest any driver found using Dangote-branded trucks for unauthorised commercial haulage.

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against logistics-related fraud, the company stressed that public cooperation remains essential to protecting its assets, promoting lawful business practices and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.

The latest initiative expands previous efforts by Dangote Industries to combat the illegal use of its trucks.

In May 2020, the company appealed to members of the public to help identify trucks transporting non-Dangote products across the country. At the time, it encouraged citizens to report suspected violations by providing details such as the truck type, registration number, cab number, location, cargo description, vehicle colour and photographs where possible.

The company also established dedicated telephone numbers and an email address for members of the public to submit reports.

Dangote said the introduction of the N500,000 whistleblower reward is intended to strengthen public participation in tackling illegal haulage activities and preserving the integrity of its logistics operations nationwide.
