Government Deserves Commendation for Rescuing Abducted School children – Gagdi

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Nigerian Navy, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has commended the Federal Government and security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oyo State, describing the operation as a remarkable achievement that deserves national recognition.

Gagdi, who represents the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State, praised the professionalism and coordination displayed by the nation’s security agencies during the rescue operation.

Speaking on TVC’s Sunday Politics, the lawmaker said the psychological trauma experienced by the victims and their families made the successful rescue even more significant.

“The government’s effort has to be acknowledged at any point in time. The psychological trauma that the rescue was able to address is enormous. I think the government deserves commendation, particularly the Nigerian security agencies that were at the forefront of ensuring that those kids were returned to their families,” he said.

According to Gagdi, one of the most remarkable aspects of the operation was the ability of security operatives to remain focused despite political comments surrounding the abduction.

“What stands out is the ability of the security operatives not to be carried away by politics. While many Nigerians genuinely expressed concern for the safety of the children, others attempted to politicise the abduction, but that did not distract the security agencies from carrying out their responsibility,” he stated.

He specifically commended the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Office of the National Security Adviser, and other security agencies for working in synergy to secure the release of the victims.

“The commitment of the military, the DSS, the coordination by the National Security Adviser and all the security apparatus that worked together to ensure the smooth operation led to the rescue of these innocent future Nigerian leaders. They need to be appreciated,” Gagdi added.

The lawmaker described the rescue mission as a “unique operation” and urged Nigerians to recognise the efforts of the government and security personnel in safeguarding the lives of the abducted children.

The victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, when armed men attacked Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in the Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

No fewer than 39 pupils and seven teachers, including a school principal, were taken during the attacks before they were eventually rescued by security operatives.
