The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has disclosed that about 2.77 million Nigerians have been trained in digital skills since 2023.

The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, disclosed this during the MTN Foundation Breakfast Session at the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit.

Inuwa said the beneficiaries were reached across all 774 local government areas and 14,664 communities in the country.

He added that 252 organisations are currently reporting their digital literacy interventions through NITDA’s National Digital Literacy Dashboard.

According to him, Cisco currently accounts for more than 1.073 million of the reported beneficiaries.

The NITDA boss said the agency’s goal was not to make every Nigerian an information technology professional but to equip citizens with digital skills that can improve their work and productivity.

He said this is being driven through the National Digital Literacy Framework, which targets 95 per cent digital literacy by 2030, with an interim target of 70 percent by 2027.

Inuwa added that the framework, which currently covers six competency areas and three proficiency levels, is being reviewed to include artificial intelligence literacy.

He also called on organisations, including the MTN Foundation, to integrate their digital literacy programmes with the national dashboard.

According to him, the move would improve visibility, prevent duplication and ensure that digital skills programmes across the country follow a common national standard.
