Tijani: Nigeria Needs Strong Digital Foundations to Attract Investors

Bosun Tijani

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, has called for stronger digital foundations that will enable Nigeria to attract more partners and investors into its technology ecosystem.

Tijani made the call on Tuesday during the “Build on Nigeria’s POSTCODE” session organised by the Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI) and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme in collaboration with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

The minister said Nigeria’s digital economy could not thrive without the right infrastructure, technology systems and mechanisms for exchanging data across sectors.

According to Tijani, every nation needs three major foundations, beginning with infrastructure that allows people to connect.

He said the second foundation is a technology stack capable of connecting the private and public sectors, while the third is a data exchange system that can create opportunities for partnerships and investment.

Tijani spoke as innovators demonstrated technology solutions built around Nigeria’s new National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System.

The system, rolled out nationwide through NIPOST on October 1, 2026, assigns an 11-character code to each addressable building in Nigeria.

The minister said the postcode should provide a foundation for innovators to develop solutions that address real-world challenges across different sectors.

During the session, Buildocrat demonstrated how postcode data could be used to provide land valuation information, while O n a showcased a delivery solution designed to eliminate problems caused by vague directions.

Hospify presented an emergency-response platform that uses postcode information to help locate people in distress, while Electra demonstrated how the system could support energy distribution monitoring and service delivery.

Tijani acknowledged the innovators for building around the new digital infrastructure and urged more developers, businesses and investors to explore opportunities created by the postcode system.

He stressed that the postcode should not be seen merely as a number, but as a foundation for building a wider digital ecosystem capable of supporting innovation, partnerships and investment.
