IGP Disu Meets INTERPOL Secretary General in France, Deepens Police Cooperation
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has met with the Secretary General of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), Valdecy Urquiza, in Lyon, France, as Nigeria moves to strengthen international cooperation against transnational crime.
Disu made his maiden official visit to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon on Monday, October 5, 2026, as part of efforts to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the international law enforcement organisation.
During the meeting, Disu and senior INTERPOL officials discussed ways to improve cooperation in tackling cybercrime, terrorism, financial crimes, organised crime and the movement of fugitives across borders.
The discussions also focused on intelligence sharing and the effective use of INTERPOL databases and policing tools to support investigations and strengthen criminal intelligence.
The engagement provided an opportunity to review Nigeria’s participation in INTERPOL-supported initiatives and identify additional areas for technical and operational cooperation.
According to the Nigeria Police Force, the collaboration is expected to strengthen criminal intelligence analysis, facilitate cross-border investigations and support efforts to disrupt international criminal networks.
Disu was accompanied on the visit by AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and National Central Bureau, Abuja; AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head of the Nigeria Police Counter Terrorism Unit; and CP Ojajuni Olubode, INTERPOL Africa Committee Member.
