The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned an alleged supporter of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Mubarak Abdullahi, over the circulation of a purported fake letter attributed to President Bola Tinubu.

Abdullahi, also known as Sardaunan Samari, was arrested on September 28 after allegedly sharing the document on his Facebook page with the caption, “ATIKU IS COMING.”

According to the information released by the DSS, the document was purportedly written by Tinubu to the President of the United States, although the agency described it as fake.

The suspect reportedly admitted to investigators that he shared the document and apologised for his action.

Following his arrest, Abdullahi was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court No. 10, Kabala Doki, Kaduna, which ordered that he be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kaduna.

The DSS has also filed a three-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime and defamation against him at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

A date for his formal arraignment before the Federal High Court has yet to be fixed.

The agency said the case demonstrates its capacity to identify and trace individuals suspected of circulating misleading information online.
