Akwa Ibom Govt Flags Off Construction of Ikot Ekpene International Market
The Akwa Ibom State Government has flagged off the construction of the Ikot Ekpene International Market, describing the project as a major step towards expanding trade, investment and economic opportunities in the state.
The flag-off ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, with Governor Umo Eno saying the project reflects his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth.
Speaking at the event, Eno said the market would provide a platform for traders, manufacturers and young people to pursue business opportunities.
“Today, we are not just laying a foundation for this international market, we are laying a foundation for prosperity, building infrastructure for opportunities and creating a platform for traders, manufacturers and for young people to build their dreams,” the governor said.
The Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Captain Ubong Ekong (Rtd.), said the project was part of the administration’s strategy to position Akwa Ibom as a hub for trade and industrialisation.
According to him, the international market is expected to support commercial activities and contribute to the state’s broader economic development.
