Nigeria

Nigeria recorded a N12.59 trillion trade surplus in the second quarter of 2026, according to figures shared by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The country’s total merchandise trade rose to N41.44 trillion in Q2 2026, representing a 5.61 percent increase from N39.24 trillion recorded in Q2 2025 and a 19.13 percent rise from N34.79 trillion in Q1 2026.

Exports stood at about N27 trillion, while imports amounted to N14.4 trillion. Non-oil exports accounted for N14.1 trillion, while crude oil exports stood at N12.9 trillion.

Onanuga described the development as another positive outcome of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, noting that the country has recorded its 11th consecutive trade surplus since May 2023 and 14th since the fourth quarter of 2022.

He added that Nigeria’s overall trade volume has increased significantly under the Tinubu administration.
