Three Killed, Several Injured as Suspected Cultists Attack Awka.
Three persons were reportedly shot dead and several others injured in separate shooting incidents in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Sunday, with suspected cultists linked to the attacks.
The incidents occurred at different locations in the city, causing panic among residents and forcing people in affected areas to seek safety.
One of the victims was identified in local reports as Aiza Nwosu, a popular Awka-based town crier, comedian and media personality. Nwosu was reportedly attacked while inside his vehicle around the SM Okeke area of Awka.
Reports from residents indicated that the attackers opened fire before leaving the area. The circumstances surrounding Nwosu’s killing were still unclear at the time of reporting.
Other shooting incidents were also reported in parts of Awka, with several people sustaining gunshot injuries. The attacks reportedly occurred within a short period, heightening tension among residents.
The incidents have raised fresh concerns about cult-related violence in Awka, where previous clashes involving suspected rival cult groups have resulted in deaths and injuries.
Meanwhile, the identity of the other victims and the full circumstances surrounding the shootings were still being established.
The Anambra State Police Command is expected to investigate the incidents and determine those responsible for the attacks.
