Obi Sympathises with Victims of Jabi Market Fire in Abuja

Obi

The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria democratic congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has expressed sadness over the fire outbreak at Ede Plaza in Jabi Market, Abuja, describing the incident as a devastating loss for traders, artisans and business owners.
Obi, in a statement on Sunday, sympathised with those affected by the early-morning fire, noting that the loss of goods and businesses represented years of savings, sacrifice and investment.
He stressed that repeated disasters affecting markets and small businesses could weaken Nigeria’s productive capacity and called for improved emergency-response systems.
“We cannot continue to lose businesses and livelihoods repeatedly to preventable disasters,” Obi said, adding that small businesses remain the backbone of the Nigerian economy.
The former Anambra State governor called for better-equipped and adequately staffed fire services capable of responding swiftly to emergencies.
He said Abuja and Nigeria must become safer places to live, work and invest while urging authorities to take stronger steps to protect businesses and livelihoods.
