Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a counter-tactical operation and recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, N2 million cash and other exhibits.
The operation also led to the safe release of a professional truck driver who was allegedly abducted on August 25,bat about 11:10 p.m. in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately launched an operation after receiving information about the abduction.
The police said operatives, acting on actionable intelligence, stormed a suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.
“Two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with different degrees of gunshot injuries,” the statement said.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of live 5.6mm ammunition, two mobile phones and N2 million, which police said was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The bodies of the two suspects have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while efforts have been intensified to track down other fleeing members of the gang.
