Kyari Opens 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week, Calls for Science-Driven Food Security
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has officially declared open the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week and the 10th Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) General Assembly in Abuja, calling on African nations to embrace science, technology, and innovation to transform agriculture and guarantee food security.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kyari said Africa must place scientific research at the heart of agricultural development, stressing that natural resources alone cannot deliver sustainable prosperity.
According to the minister, countries that have achieved lasting economic growth did so by investing in science and innovation before transforming their agricultural sectors.
“Before countries became prosperous, they first learned how to feed their people, and before they transformed agriculture, they invested in science,” Kyari said.
He noted that agriculture remains a key pillar of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting ongoing government investments in irrigation, mechanisation, quality farm inputs, agricultural finance, digital agriculture, and agro-industrial development.
