FG Approves N46bn for Kano Airport Runway as FAAN Unveils Upgraded Domestic Terminal

The Federal Government has approved N46 billion for the rehabilitation of the primary and secondary runways at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) commissioned the newly upgraded Dankabo Domestic Terminal.

The approval was announced by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), during the commissioning ceremony, marking another major milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing airport modernisation programme.

According to the minister, the runway rehabilitation project is expected to further strengthen Kano’s position as a strategic aviation hub for Northern Nigeria while improving safety and operational efficiency.

The newly upgraded Dankabo Domestic Terminal features modern baggage handling systems, enhanced check-in facilities, improved passenger lounges, upgraded air-conditioning systems, and other critical infrastructure designed to provide travelers with a seamless, world-class airport experience.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to transforming airport infrastructure across the country.

She said FAAN remains focused on delivering modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly airport facilities that meet international standards and support the growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Also speaking, Chairman of the FAAN Board of Directors, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, described the project as a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure renewal under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Ganduje commended the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the FAAN management for delivering projects that would strengthen the nation’s aviation industry, boost economic growth, and improve the travel experience for millions of passengers.
