Nema

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Enugu Operations Office has responded to a fire outbreak at Ummuneoma Close, Monarch Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu State.

The incident occurred at about 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after the NEMA Enugu Operations Office received a distress call about the fire.

Following the alert, NEMA immediately activated relevant emergency responders, including the Federal and State Fire Services, who arrived at the scene to contain the situation.

The fire reportedly started in one of the flats in a three-storey building. The combined efforts of NEMA personnel and the fire services prevented the flames from spreading to other apartments in the building.

The cause of the fire could not be immediately determined, as the occupant of the affected apartment was not at home when the incident occurred.

No casualty was recorded in the incident. However, NEMA said some properties and valuables were completely destroyed by the fire.

Emergency response operations at the scene were concluded at about 2:59 p.m.

Residents of the area commended the emergency responders for their swift intervention, which helped prevent the fire from spreading further.

NEMA also urged residents and property owners to install fire extinguishers in their buildings and ensure they are easily accessible.

The agency said having fire extinguishers readily available could help residents control fire outbreaks at an early stage before they escalate.
