Edo Police Recover Six-Month-Old Baby, Arrest Suspects Over Alleged Rape, Cultism
The Edo State Police Command has recovered a six-month-old baby allegedly stolen and taken to Imo State, while several suspects linked to criminal activities across the state have been arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, disclosed this in a press briefing on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, highlighting the command’s operational achievements in the past week.
According to the command, operatives of the Gender and Family Unit recovered the baby following an intelligence-led operation, with suspects connected to the incident also arrested. The child has since been reunited with the family.
The command also said operatives of the Otuo Division arrested seven suspected notorious cult members during an intelligence-driven operation aimed at curbing cult-related activities in the area.
In another operation, police arrested suspects allegedly involved in stripping a young girl at the Ekiadolor axis and subsequently circulating the material on social media.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue, with the command assuring that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police further disclosed that a 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben.
The command said the case was being thoroughly investigated and that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command said it had concluded a one-week joint clearance operation across parts of Edo North aimed at dislodging criminal elements and destroying their forest hideouts.
The operation, according to the command, produced positive results, with the affected areas remaining relatively calm and peaceful and no kidnapping activity reported during the period.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents to continue providing the police with credible and timely information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime.
He also advised parents and young people to shun cultism and all forms of criminal association.
The command further warned members of the public against using social media to humiliate, threaten, expose or sexually violate others, stressing that sexual violence in any form is a criminal offence.
The police assured residents that the command would continue to take decisive action against criminality and work towards protecting lives and property across Edo State.
