Wahab Reacts to Tunde Ednut’s Mushin Road Post, Says Video Is Outdated

Wahab

Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has reacted to a post by popular social media influencer Tunde Ednut on X over the state of a road in Mushin, Lagos.

Ednut had shared a video on the social media platform showing what appeared to be a road overwhelmed by waste in the Mushin area, prompting a response from the commissioner.

Reacting to the post, Wahab said the video was old and did not reflect the current situation in the area, noting that the location had since been cleared.

Wahab said the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) had continued to sustain its operations in the area as part of efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.

The commissioner acknowledged that Lagos, like other major cities, faces challenges in waste management. He, however, identified the unwillingness of some residents and property occupiers to pay for Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste collection services as one of the recurring challenges.

According to him, LAWMA and its teams have consistently intervened in areas where waste management challenges arise and remain committed to keeping the environment clean.

Wahab urged content creators and social media users to verify information before publishing, particularly when using photographs or videos to depict the current situation in a particular location.

He said relying on outdated content could give the public a misleading impression of the situation and unnecessarily portray Lagos and Nigeria in a negative light.

The commissioner stressed that constructive criticism remains welcome, but said it would be more effective when based on accurate and verifiable information.
