Peter Obi Mourns Zurmi, Gumel Traditional Rulers
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has expressed condolences to the people of Zurmi Emirate in Zamfara State and Gumel Emirate in Jigawa State over the deaths of two prominent traditional rulers.
Obi, in a condolence message, mourned the passing of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, Sarkin Zamfara, Zurmi, and His Royal Highness, Emir Ahmed Sani II, Emir of Gumel, who reportedly died in Egypt.
The former Anambra State governor described the deaths as significant losses to their respective emirates and to Nigeria, noting the important roles traditional rulers play in preserving the country’s cultural heritage and promoting peace and unity.
According to Obi, traditional rulers remain important custodians of the culture, history and traditions of their people, while also contributing to social harmony within their communities.
He extended his sympathies to the families of the deceased monarchs, the traditional institutions and the people of Zurmi and Gumel Emirates, urging them to remain strong during the difficult period.
Obi prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased traditional rulers and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed that Allah would give their families, subjects and communities the strength and resilience to bear what he described as irreplaceable losses.
