The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has empowered 250 indigenes of Asaga, Ohafia in Abia State with NASENI cookstoves, home solar solutions and other renewable technology tools under its National Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP).
The empowerment programme, which was held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, is aimed at providing beneficiaries with relevant skills, tools and technologies to improve productivity, create sustainable livelihoods and promote innovation-driven economic growth.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the agency’s presence in Abia State was particularly significant because of the state’s long-standing reputation for enterprise, creativity and manufacturing.
Halilu said NASENI was focused on moving research beyond laboratories and institutions into practical solutions that improve lives and strengthen communities.
“We believe that science, technology and engineering must move beyond laboratories and institutions and translate into practical solutions that improve livelihoods, create opportunities and strengthen communities,” he said.
The empowerment package included NASENI Home Solar Solutions, such as solar fans, power banks, cookstoves and other technologies designed to support productive and sustainable livelihoods.
Halilu stressed that the programme was not simply about distributing items but represented an investment in the productive capacity of beneficiaries.
“Our beneficiaries, the support you receive today is not simply a handout. It is an investment in your productive capacity. We expect you to put it to work, create value from it, improve your livelihoods and, where possible, create opportunities for others,” he said.
He added that NASENI would measure the success of its interventions by the number of lives improved, businesses strengthened, jobs supported and communities made more productive.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Dr Armstrong Ume Takang, commended NASENI for bringing the NSEP programme to Ohafia.
Takang said the programme demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians feel the impact of good governance through job creation, opportunities and greater self-reliance.
