Obi Congratulates Adeleke, Says Democracy Wins When People Stand

Obi

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in the 2027 poll has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome as a victory for democracy and the people of the state.
Obi said the people of Osun had spoken with “courage and clarity,” reaffirming their right to choose their leaders through the ballot. He attributed Adeleke’s renewed mandate to his commitment to the people, compassion for their needs and achievements recorded during his first term.
The NDC presidential candidate also commended youths in Osun State for what he described as their peaceful defence of the democratic process.
According to him, their vigilance demonstrated that citizens can protect the integrity of their votes when they remain alert and committed to their civic responsibilities.
Obi said the major lesson from the Osun election was that democracy becomes stronger when citizens actively participate and ensure that their votes count.
He urged Nigerians to draw lessons from the election ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on citizens to remain informed, participate actively in the electoral process and protect their votes.
“The Nigerian people are the ones experiencing hunger, deprivation, insecurity, and hardship; therefore, they are also the ones with the power, through their votes, to bring about the change that will end these conditions,” Obi said.
He further called on political actors to place the interests of Nigerians above partisan considerations and embrace peace, unity and the rule of law.
Obi stressed that elections should be contests of ideas, competence, character and service rather than battles marked by violence.
He expressed hope that the Osun experience would strengthen Nigerians’ confidence in democracy and inspire citizens to work towards building a just, secure, prosperous and people-centred nation.
