NITDA Partners Women Educators to Launch Nationwide Digital Literacy Initiative

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced plans to partner with the National Association of Women in Colleges of Education to roll out a nationwide digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and STEM training programme aimed at empowering female educators and the students they mentor.
The collaboration was discussed during a meeting at NITDA Headquarters in Abuja, where the association’s North-West Zonal Coordinator, Zainab Inuwa Adamu, formally invited NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, to serve as Patron of the association’s forthcoming national conference of Federal Colleges of Education.
Adamu highlighted the association’s more than 30-year history of supporting female educators and empowering young girls through practical vocational training in skills such as tailoring, knitting, and soap-making. She said the partnership with NITDA would help expand those efforts by equipping members with digital skills needed in today’s economy.
Responding, Abdullahi welcomed the invitation and stressed the importance of sustainable capacity building rather than one-off interventions. He proposed the development of comprehensive digital literacy and information technology training programmes for members of the association, with a nationwide rollout to be launched during the national conference.
According to the NITDA Director-General, the initiative will include training in digital marketing, business planning, entrepreneurship, and other technology-driven skills to strengthen women’s businesses and improve their economic opportunities. He added that the programme would also create mentorship opportunities for young girls under the association’s care.
Abdullahi reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to promoting gender inclusion in Nigeria’s digital economy, noting the need to encourage more young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), particularly in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and data science.
He also pledged to provide digital tools and learning materials to support the programme and invited members of the association to participate in the Digital Nigeria Conference 2026.
