Tinubu Urges Plateau Leaders to Unite Against Criminals

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on political leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in Plateau State to put aside their differences and unite against criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.

The President made the call on Saturday in Jos during the 80th birthday celebration and public presentation of the autobiography of former Plateau State Governor, Senator Jonah David Jang. Tinubu was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shettima said leadership should be measured by the positive impact made on people’s lives rather than the number of public offices held.

He described Jang as a respected leader whose influence extends beyond Plateau State, noting that the state has produced distinguished sons and daughters who have excelled in both military and civilian service.

The Vice President expressed concern over the security challenges affecting Plateau State and other parts of the country, saying many young people now live in fear because of persistent attacks by criminal groups.

He stressed that those responsible for the violence should not be identified by religion or ethnicity, insisting that criminals have no tribe or faith and must be confronted collectively.

Shettima also highlighted Plateau State’s strategic importance to Nigeria, citing the presence of several key federal institutions, including the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), and the National Centre for Remote Sensing.

He urged leaders and residents of the state to remain united in the face of security challenges, saying lasting peace and development can only be achieved through collective action and mutual trust.
