Female Driver Dies in Lone Auto Crash in Lagos, LASTMA Warns Against Speeding

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned motorists against excessive speeding following a fatal lone vehicular crash that claimed the life of a female driver at Mongoro, inward Ile-Zik, along one of Lagos’ busiest roads.

In a statement issued by the agency, the deceased was driving a Toyota Sienna with registration number LND 162 HB when she reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and crashed into a roadside building.

The impact of the collision was said to have been severe, resulting in the driver’s instant death. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.

LASTMA officials on routine patrol responded immediately to the scene, cordoning off the affected section of the road with safety cones and directing traffic to prevent congestion and secondary accidents during the evacuation process.

Although the crash temporarily disrupted traffic, the agency said the swift intervention of its officers helped restore the free flow of vehicles within a short time.

Security personnel from the Afonka Police Post under the Shasha Divisional Police Headquarters also provided security throughout the rescue and evacuation operation.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the crash as a tragic reminder of the dangers of excessive speed and reckless driving.

He urged motorists to obey speed limits and traffic regulations, stressing that they are designed to save lives and prevent avoidable road crashes.

Bakare-Oki also advised drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition before embarking on any journey, noting that any sign of mechanical failure should be addressed before driving.

The agency expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of her soul.
