NDPC Unveils Nollywood-Style Privacy Platform, Says 66,000 Nigerians Already Enrolled

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has disclosed that more than 66,000 Nigerians have enrolled on its Virtual Privacy Academy (VPA), a digital learning platform designed to boost privacy and data protection awareness across the country.

Speaking at the official premiere of the platform in Lagos, the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, described the Virtual Privacy Academy as the first Nollywood-style, self-paced privacy education platform in the global data protection ecosystem.

According to him, the platform was developed in partnership with Mastercard and Quadcore Technologies to make data protection education more engaging and accessible to individuals, businesses and institutions.

Olatunji said the academy equips participants with foundational knowledge of digital privacy, including the principles of data protection, the rights of data subjects, and the responsibilities of organisations that collect and process personal data.

He explained that the platform also serves as a pathway for learners to become Certified Data Protection Officers (CDPOs), adding that the Commission has localised the certification process to build a globally competitive workforce in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

The NDPC boss revealed that the academy has already attracted more than 66,000 learners, including employees from government agencies and private sector organisations that have adopted the platform as part of their workforce development programmes.

He called on more organisations to embrace the initiative, noting that strengthening privacy awareness is critical as Nigeria accelerates digital transformation and the adoption of emerging technologies.

Olatunji also commended Mastercard and Quadcore Technologies for supporting the initiative, saying strategic partnerships remain essential to building a resilient data protection ecosystem and promoting responsible digital innovation in Nigeria.
