FG Deepens Teacher Professionalism, Tasks TRCN on Digital Transformation

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening teacher professionalism, institutional capacity and digital transformation to improve learning outcomes and drive sustainable education reforms across Nigeria.

The commitment was made by the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, during the 2026 Three-Day Retreat of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) in Abuja, according to a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade.

Professor Ahmad said quality teachers and strong institutions remain the foundation of national development, stressing that the administration is prioritising reforms aimed at improving education standards across the country.

She explained that the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) are driving key reforms focused on improving foundational learning, strengthening teacher quality, enhancing governance and accelerating digital transformation within the education sector.

The minister urged the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria to continue promoting professional standards, ethical practice and continuous professional development for teachers while embracing technology to improve communication, data management and service delivery.

She also called for stronger collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Education, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, the Nigeria Union of Teachers and other stakeholders to equip teachers with the digital skills needed for 21st-century education.

Professor Ahmad noted that enhancing teachers’ digital competencies would help prepare learners for the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy while improving the quality of teaching and learning in schools.

The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote teacher professionalisation, institutional excellence and technology-driven service delivery.

The ministry added that investing in teachers remains central to building a globally competitive education system and achieving better learning outcomes for every Nigerian child.
