Ogun Police Arrest Two, Recover Six Stolen Cows, Foil Suspected Kidnap Attempt on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cattle theft syndicate, recovered six stolen cows, and foiled a suspected kidnap attempt along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in separate operations across the state.
The Command said operatives of the Sagamu Division arrested Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, after dismantling a suspected cattle theft syndicate responsible for stealing livestock in the Maskoli area of Sagamu.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the breakthrough followed a distress call received in the early hours of July 25, reporting that suspected thieves had invaded a cattle yard and made away with seven cows.
He said police operatives immediately launched coordinated patrols along identified exit routes and, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted suspicious vehicles on the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
The operation led to the arrest of the two suspects, the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows, and the seizure of a blue Nissan Cabster bus believed to have been used by the syndicate during the operation.
Babaseyi disclosed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, recover the remaining stolen cow, and prosecute all those involved.
In a separate operation on July 26, operatives of the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team also thwarted a suspected abduction attempt at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The police spokesperson explained that officers on routine confidence-building patrol responded swiftly after hearing gunshots in the area, forcing the suspected kidnappers to abandon their mission and flee into a nearby bush.
“The victim was rescued unhurt and escorted to the Ogunmakin Police Post alongside his vehicle for safety and necessary police procedures,” the statement said.
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and courage displayed by the operatives, describing the arrests and rescue as evidence of the Command’s strengthened operational capacity.
Ojajuni reassured residents that the police remain committed to intelligence-led policing, visibility patrols, and rapid response to criminal activities across the state.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid the fight against crime.
