NIMC, SGF Strengthen Digital Identity Drive

NIMC meeting

NIMC has intensified efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital identity system following a high-level meeting between its Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
The strategic meeting focused on advancing the country’s digital identity ecosystem, with discussions centred on the newly enacted NIMC Act 2026 and how it is expected to transform identity management, improve public service delivery, deepen collaboration among government agencies and boost investor confidence.
During the meeting, Coker-Odusote briefed the SGF on the commission’s recent achievements and outlined how the new law would accelerate the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his response, Senator Akume praised the progress recorded by NIMC under the current leadership, describing the commission’s achievements as remarkable. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to support the implementation of the President’s identity reform agenda through sustained collaboration and institutional backing.
The meeting is expected to further strengthen cooperation between NIMC and key government institutions as Nigeria pushes to build a more secure, efficient, and inclusive digital identity system for citizens.
