Bosun Tijani: Security Agencies Regularly Access Nigeria’s Digital Security Systems

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, has said the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy plays a critical role in supporting Nigeria’s security architecture by ensuring that digital facilities and systems are accessible to security agencies.

Tijani stated this while speaking on communication and security on TVC programme, “Your View,” where he addressed public misconceptions about the ministry’s role in national security.

The minister said many Nigerians do not fully understand or appreciate the capabilities of the country’s security operatives, noting that they possess both the capacity and the technological support required to protect citizens.

He explained that security agencies also collaborate with digital platforms when necessary to safeguard Nigerians, particularly in addressing emerging threats within the digital space.

“People don’t actually understand and appreciate the capability of our security operatives, and they have those capabilities. Beyond capabilities, where necessary, they also work with the platforms to protect Nigerians. The misconception, however, is thinking that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy is also responsible for security in the country. What we need to do is ensure that our facilities and systems are accessible to the security apparatus, and we do that regularly,”

The minister disclosed that a standing committee has been established to support security operatives, including the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), in leveraging digital infrastructure and systems to enhance national security operations.
