Nigeria Targets Tech-Driven Economy With Skills Training, N372bn NELFUND Disbursement
The Federal Government has highlighted digital skills development, technical education and data-driven planning as key strategies for transitioning Nigeria into a knowledge-based economy and achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
The Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa disclosed this during the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit, where industry leaders discussed ways to equip young Nigerians with skills for innovation, technology and employment.
The minister said the government was implementing a revised education curriculum, expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and disbursing over N372 billion through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
He also highlighted the Nigeria Education Data Initiative (NEDI) and the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), describing them as important tools for strengthening education data management, planning and accountability.
According to him, the transition from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-driven economy requires Nigerians to develop practical competencies that meet the demands of emerging industries and technological advancement.
He called on private sector organisations to strengthen partnerships with the government through industry-led training, digital skills development and employment opportunities.
The minister added that collaboration between government and businesses would help transform the skills acquired by young Nigerians into jobs, innovative businesses and economic growth.
