NASENI Begins Training of 120 Kogi Youths in Electrical Installation
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has commenced a five-day skills acquisition and youth empowerment programme for 120 youths in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The training, held at Reveton Hotel, Lokoja, is focused on modern methods of electrical installation and maintenance as part of NASENI’s efforts to promote human capacity development, youth empowerment and economic inclusion.
The programme is being implemented under the NASENI Skill Acquisition and Youth Empowerment Programme and is aimed at equipping participants with practical technical skills that can improve their employability and create opportunities for entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the event, NASENI Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the agency’s vision was to take science, technology and engineering beyond laboratories and into Nigerian homes, businesses and communities.
Halilu, represented at the event by NASENI’s Research Director, Professor Ibrahim Onuwe Abdullahi, said the training reflected the agency’s commitment to deploying practical technologies and skills that create jobs, grow businesses and strengthen communities.
He urged the beneficiaries to take the training seriously and make the most of every session, noting that participants would receive starter packs to support them in beginning their own businesses after the programme.
The NASENI chief executive declared the training programme open, saying youth empowerment was not only about empowering a demographic group but about empowering the future of society.
The Maigari of Lokoja, represented by the Maiwatanwale of Lokoja, Alhaji Adamu Muhammed Alabi, commended NASENI and the Federal Government for bringing the skills acquisition programme to the area.
Also, the Maiyaki of Lokoja, Alhaji Ali Lawal Jiya, urged the beneficiaries to put the skills acquired into practice to improve their livelihoods and contribute to better electrical installation and maintenance in the housing, oil and gas, and construction sectors.
