NITDA Takes Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign to Abuja Streets

Cybersecurity

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has taken its National Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026 campaign to the streets of Abuja to educate Nigerians on how to protect themselves against online threats.
The campaign, themed “Together for a Safer Cyberspace,” is being led by NITDA and its Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Team (CERRT.NG) throughout October to promote safe digital practices among individuals, businesses and institutions.
The agency said the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) by cybercriminals has increased the risk of digital threats, including deepfake impersonation, voice cloning and fraudulent QR-code attacks, commonly known as quishing.
During the Abuja roadshow, NITDA officials distributed flyers containing nine cybersecurity tips and engaged members of the public on practical ways to stay safe online.
The agency urged Nigerians to use strong and unique passwords, enable multi-factor authentication, regularly update their devices and applications, and avoid sharing personal identification numbers (PINs) and one-time passwords (OTPs).
It also advised citizens to be cautious of voice phishing, known as vishing, and SMS phishing, known as smishing, while encouraging them to secure their home Wi-Fi networks, back up important data and avoid sharing excessive personal information online.
NITDA said cybersecurity requires collective responsibility, stressing that individuals, businesses and institutions all have roles to play in building a safer digital environment.
