Sowore Questions Tinubu’s Extended Stay in Europe, Raises Medical Treatment Claim
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has questioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to extend his stay in Europe, alleging that the President may have remained abroad to receive further medical treatment.
Sowore made the allegation in a post on X while reacting to Tinubu’s decision to extend his working vacation and his absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
According to Sowore, Tinubu’s decision to remain in Europe came even after French President Emmanuel Macron, whom he described as the President’s host, had travelled to New York for the UNGA.
Sowore alleged that the President’s extended stay could be connected to medical treatment before returning to Nigeria ahead of preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
He also questioned why there had been no announcement about handing over presidential powers to Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is currently in New York representing Nigeria at the UNGA.
The AAC candidate further alleged that the development was part of what he described as a broader plan surrounding Tinubu’s political future in 2027.
Sowore said the situation had raised questions about transparency and the handling of presidential responsibilities while both the President and Vice President are outside the country.
