The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects after foiling a robbery operation at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro.

The suspects, identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun, were arrested by operatives of the Ewekoro Divisional Police Headquarters after responding to a distress call about an armed robbery at a student hostel.

The incident occurred around 2:40am on September 13, 2026, when an anonymous caller alerted the police that an armed gang was robbing students in the community.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babasiyi, the Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilised his team to the scene.

The suspects reportedly abandoned their loot in a school bag and attempted to escape after sighting the police. The operatives pursued them and arrested two members of the gang.

A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of 11 assorted iPhones, an HP laptop and various clothing items. The victims have reportedly identified the recovered belongings as their property.

Preliminary investigation also revealed that the robbers allegedly forced one of the victims to transfer N200,000 to an account during the operation.

The police said detectives had visited the crime scene, documented the forced entry and secured the recovered exhibits.

Search warrants executed at the suspects’ residences did not yield additional incriminating items.

The suspects and recovered property are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, police operatives are continuing efforts to arrest other members of the gang who fled the scene and identify the owner of the account that received the N200,000.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ewekoro operatives for their timely response and vigilance.

The command also urged operators of off-campus student hostels and landlords to maintain emergency contact numbers and promptly report suspicious activities or security threats.
