Atiku Mourns Olu Jacobs, Hails Late Actor as Cultural Icon
Former Vice President and Action democratic congress (ADC) Presidential candidate in the 2027 poll Atiku Abubakar has mourned the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacobs, describing him as a cultural icon and one of Nigeria’s finest ambassadors of the creative industry.
Atiku, in a condolence message, said Nigeria had lost more than an accomplished actor, but an institution whose contributions to the country’s entertainment industry would remain memorable.
He described Jacobs as a familiar and commanding presence who entertained generations of Nigerians with his distinctive voice, talent and dignity in his various roles.
According to him, Jacobs contributed to the growth of Nollywood long before the industry gained global recognition, adding that the late actor helped lay the foundation for younger generations of performers.
Atiku said Jacobs used his talent to promote Nigerian stories and culture while inspiring many actors who followed the path he helped create.
He also expressed sympathy to Jacobs’ wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, their children and other members of the family, praying that they would find strength in their memories of the late actor.
The former Vice President extended his condolences to the Nollywood community, the wider African creative industry and Jacobs’ admirers across the world.
He said the actor’s legacy would endure through the characters he portrayed, the standards he set and the generations of creatives he inspired.
Jacobs died at the age of 84.
