Mother Arrested After Allegedly Burning Daughter With Hot Knife

A mother has been arrested in Anambra State after allegedly burning her seven-year-old daughter with a hot knife over an accusation that the child took meat from a pot.

The incident reportedly occurred in Ibollo community, Awada-Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, where the child was rescued after residents and community security personnel intervened.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Ogechi Ofoma, was arrested by the police in collaboration with officials of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.

The child, identified as Oluebube, reportedly sustained injuries from the alleged attack and was taken into protective care for medical attention.

The Anambra State Police Command said the suspect was taken to Awada Police Station while investigations into the incident continue.

The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, also directed that the victim receive necessary medical treatment and protection.

The state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Esther Onyekesi, condemned the alleged act, describing it as a violation of the child’s rights.
