Edo Police Arrest Suspect Over Store Break-In, Recover Stolen Items Worth N5m
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man, Marvelous Ozu, in connection with the alleged breaking and stealing of goods from a pharmaceutical and provision store along St. Saviour Road, Benin City.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the incident was reported on August 22, 2026, by Nwasiwe Felix, a trader whose store at No. 65 St. Saviour Road was allegedly burgled by unknown persons.
The police said the thieves made away with several items, including 25 bundles of electrical wires and cables, a 43-inch Hisense LED television, cartons of Chabbot and Valentino brandy, a Raleigh bicycle, assorted medicated soaps and perfumes, as well as N350,000 in cash.
Following the report, detectives visited the scene and commenced investigations, while dealers in fairly-used goods were alerted to watch out for the stolen items.
The suspect was subsequently arrested at about 2pm on the same day at Mission Road, Benin City, while attempting to sell some of the stolen property.
The police said a search warrant executed at Ozu’s residence on Ogbebor Street, off Upper Sakponba Road, led to the recovery of a 43-inch Hisense television, five bottles of Chabbot brandy, assorted medicated soaps, perfumes and bundles of electrical cables, among other items.
The Command said the suspect had confessed to involvement in several other cases of store break-in and stealing.
He is expected to be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, commended the detectives for their swift response and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
