Tinubu Directs Finance Minister to Present Reforms Scorecard to Nigerians
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to present a comprehensive account of the Federal Government’s economic reforms and their impact on Nigerians.
Tinubu made this known while reflecting on the administration’s reform agenda, which began in 2023, saying the difficult decisions taken by his government were aimed at building a stronger economy and securing a better future for Nigerians.
The President said the Reforms Scorecard would provide Nigerians with an account of what the reforms have achieved, the costs associated with them and the potential economic challenges the government believes were avoided by implementing the measures.
“When we began this journey of reform in 2023, I promised that the difficult decisions we were making would serve the purpose of building an economy that works better for you and a country that is stronger for our children,” Tinubu said.
According to the President, the scorecard is intended to give citizens a clearer understanding of the government’s economic decisions, the progress recorded so far and the areas where further work is required.
Tinubu said he had therefore directed Oyedele to explain the figures, policy choices and outcomes of the reforms, as well as the challenges that remain.
“I have therefore directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to give an account to Nigerians, to explain the numbers, the choices we have made, the progress recorded, and the work that remains,” he said.
The President emphasised that Nigerians deserve access to information about the economic changes introduced by his administration and how they affect households, businesses and the wider economy.
“You deserve to see the numbers. You deserve to know what has changed and what these reforms mean for you, your family, your business and our country,” Tinubu said.
He described the exercise as an account of the administration’s stewardship to Nigerians, stressing that the reforms are ultimately intended to build a stronger and more sustainable Nigerian economy.
