PLASU Lecturers Declare Indefinite Strike From August 25
Lecturers of Plateau State University (PLASU) Bokkos has delivered a notice of strike to the school authority.
On the notice, the lecturers will commence the strike action by withdrawing their services from the 25th of this month.
The PLASU chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) disclosed this in a statement by the Branch Chairman, Dr. Vincent Choji on Sunday.
According to Dr. Choji, the strike notice follows the approval granted by the National Executive Council of ASUU, NEC-ASUU, at its meeting held over the weekend.
The statement noted that NEC considered the branch’s request to embark on industrial action over unresolved issues contained in its Charter of Demands.
The demands include delays in the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme, implementation of the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement and payment of arrears due since January 2026, lack of safe and secure staff accommodation, harassment of union leaders and victimization.
The Lecturers also cited none payment of 22 months’ arrears of the 25%/35% wage award.
The statement added that NEC also considered the report of the Visitation Team that met with the University Administration and the Visitor to the University on Monday, 27th July, 2026.
“Having assessed the responses of both the University Administration and the Plateau State Government, NEC observed that nothing tangible has been done to address the Branch’s Charter of Demands,” the statement read.
Consequently, NEC granted the branch’s request to proceed on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action upon the expiration of a two-week ultimatum, which commenced on Monday, 10th August, 2026 and ends on Monday, 24th August, 2026″
Dr. Choji warned that if urgent steps are not taken to address the issues, students will be seriously affected.
He noted that students are scheduled to resume on August 27, while lectures are to commence on September 9, 2026, according to the university’s academic calendar.
