Aruwe Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Development Through Grassroots Football

The Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Olatunbosun Haruna Aruwe, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development through sports, describing football as a powerful tool for nurturing talent, discipline and social responsibility among young people.

Aruwe made the remarks at the grand finale of the 2026 Aruwe Under-15 Chairman’s Cup held on Friday, July 31, at the Mushin LGEA Football Pitch, where Ward I defeated Ward B 1-0 to emerge champions of the grassroots football competition.

Speaking after presenting medals and trophies to outstanding players, the chairman said his administration would continue investing in programmes that empower young people and provide opportunities for them to excel.

“This competition is beyond football. It is about giving our young people opportunities to discover their talents, build discipline, encourage teamwork and stay away from social vices. We will continue to invest in initiatives that promote the future of our children because they are the pride of Mushin.”

Also speaking, the Secretary to the Local Government and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Hon. Basirat Mohammed Yusuf, commended the participating teams, coaches, officials and supporters for contributing to the success of the tournament, describing the championship as a reflection of effective collaboration between government and the community.

“The success of this championship reflects what can be achieved when the government, communities and stakeholders work together. We appreciate every ward that participated and congratulate all the winners for their dedication and sportsmanship.”

The grassroots football competition, organised by the Mushin Local Government, was aimed at discovering young talents, promoting sportsmanship and keeping youths positively engaged. Earlier in the day, Ward A secured third place with a 3-0 victory over Ward E, while a novelty match saw political office holders defeat members of the local government management team 2-0.
