Kano Central Will Decide APC, NDC Battle in 2027 – Analyst

Political analyst Asuquo James has described Kano Central Senatorial District as the key battleground that could determine the outcome of the political contest between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Journalists’ Hangout on TVC, James said Kano Central has historically produced some of the highest vote totals in Kano State, making it the most strategic senatorial district for major political parties.

According to him, the interest of both the APC and the NDC in prominent political figures such as senator representing the Kano Central Senatorial District Sani Rufai Hanga and former Kano State Governor Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya is driven by the need to maintain or secure dominance in the district.

“You know before Kwankwaso became senator he won Kano Central with about 250,000 votes and even Ibrahim Shekarau, when he was governor, won with around 400,000 to 500,000 votes. That is why Kano Central is a battleground and why people are always talking about it.

“So, I think for the APC and the NDC, why they are jostling with these two set of people, which is Hanga and Gaya, is to make sure that Kano Central is still intact with either party. It is either with us or it is not with us, but I know the battleground will be in Kano Central because that is where the major vote is,” James said.

The analyst noted that the voting strength of Kano Central makes it a decisive factor in future electoral contests, adding that both parties are expected to intensify efforts to consolidate support in the district as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
