NDPC Trains DPOs To Strengthen Data Protection Across MDAs
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has commenced a capacity-building programme for Data Protection Officers (DPOs) across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strengthen data protection practices in Nigeria’s public sector.
The National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, declared the programme open in Abuja under the NDPC Initiative for Data Protection, sponsored by Meta.
Olatunji appreciated Meta for partnering with the Commission to deliver the training, stressing that continuous learning and human capital development were essential to institutional growth.
He said public institutions must equip their DPOs with the knowledge and skills required to improve data protection awareness and practices within government organisations.
The NDPC boss urged the participants to develop a thorough understanding of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 and the General Application and Implementation Directive (GAID), noting that the provisions should guide their daily responsibilities across their respective MDAs.
According to him, effective implementation of data protection regulations would help strengthen the culture of privacy and data protection across public institutions.
Olatunji also encouraged the participants to view the training as an opportunity to improve their professional competence, noting that data protection and privacy skills are increasingly in demand globally.
