Ogun Police Rescue 11 Ghanaians in N50.27m Visa Fraud Case

Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 11 Ghanaian nationals allegedly held hostage in Sagamu after they were reportedly lured to Nigeria with promises of securing Canadian and Spanish visas.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the victims, comprising seven males and four females, were rescued by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit following actionable intelligence received on October 19, 2026.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were allegedly deceived by a fellow Ghanaian who promised to facilitate their overseas travel.

Each of the victims reportedly paid GH₵40,000 for the visa arrangements before being brought to Nigeria and allegedly held against their will.

The command said the total amount involved in the alleged transaction was estimated at about N50.27 million.

The rescued victims are currently receiving appropriate care and support, while detectives are working to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly connected to the criminal network.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its swift response and professionalism.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating transnational crime and preventing criminals from exploiting people seeking opportunities abroad.

He said the command would continue its efforts until those responsible for the alleged crime are brought to justice.

The police urged members of the public to properly verify overseas travel and visa-processing arrangements before making payments and to report suspicious activities to the authorities.
